Hyannis, MA: The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce invites you to join us on Friday, November 14th for an important economic summit on "What’s Next: A Focus on Cape Cod’s Economic Future," to be held at Cape Cod Community College’s Tilden Theatre in West Barnstable.

"It's been one year since the Cape heard some rather startling demographic statistics at the first Economic Summit, and we will continue the discussion on how to stem the loss of young families from the region, while keeping our economy on strong footing,” said Wendy Northcross, CEO, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. "We will hear from county and municipal leaders on ways to share costs while maintaining critical services, and we want to hear from the audience on ideas to improve Cape Cod's economic future." The event, to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature the following speakers:

• Suzanne M. Bump, Secretary of the Mass. Department of Labor and Workforce Development, as part of the department’s outreach to communities on local labor force solutions.

• Paul Harrington, a noted economist from the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University, who recently completed a labor market study specific to Cape Cod. Dr. Harrington will outline the opportunities and challenges for our region as we both grow our own and attract new people to our labor force, keeping the region economically healthy.

• Linda Dunlavy, the Executive Director of the Franklin Regional Council of Governments, who will address the issue of regionalization, or resource sharing, and share the council’s innovative approaches in "floating regionalization.” A local panel representing the county, towns and elected officials will join her in talking about what is going on locally since last year's summit, and what their major concerns are in moving forward.

• Dana Ansel, research director of the nonprofit research organization MassInc., who will discuss the findings of the organization’s report "Great Expectations: A Survey of Young Adults in Massachusetts." She will be joined by representatives of the Cape Cod Young Professionals, who are preparing a companion survey of our local residents to compare and discuss the impact on our community. Cost to register is $30 and includes continental breakfast and refreshments.
